Handmade and Homemade Just for You

As promised, today I'm going to show you some vintage goodness! And the other Papertrey girls have some handmade/homemade goodies to show you too. Oh happy day!! Lisa Johnson's new Just For You set is absolutely adorable. I want to marry this set and have it by side constantly. But that would be of silly so let's just get to the projects, right?

Let's pretend I made this present for you and we'll work backwards at unwrapping it and explaining all the details. Who doesn't love a present? Lisa's covered all the bases for about any kind of crafty project you can imagine. I was immediately drawn to the adorable little apron image. So my gift today is a hand crafted apron with matching card. Taaa-da. Okay, open your gift. Tap, tap, tap...don't be all shy. I've just wrapped it in some old sewing pattern tissue paper and a scrap of fabric, get to it already! :)
Okay, now that we've got it all unwrapped, here's a peek at the matching ensemble. Any ideas yet? Remember all those vintage goodies from yesterday's post?
Well, I've combined them all to make an adorable(I think I've said that like 3 times already today)vintage looking, recycled, hand crafted kitchen apron. Look a little closer...zoom in. The base of the apron is a vintage pillowcase! I know, get out!! I saw some of these while researching online and immediately knew I wanted to make some for friends and family.
Here's some mixy matchy goodness, using all vintage finds.....old embroidered napkins, ric rac, doilies, and fabrics....with a few new items like Papertrey's Vintage Buttons and a crocheted flower that my friend Sharon made for me. They're all stitched onto the pillow case along with extra long apron strings so that they'll wrap around the front and tie. Totally washable, totally soft and already worn.....heaven.
And for the card, it's just as cute. I used Papertrey patterned papers, Kraft cardstock and Lisa's Just For You stamp set.
The main circle image features cute stamps from Just For You. I paper pieced the apron, cutting out the tiniest of lines. I even added a little patchwork piece of paper and some blue rhinestones to bling up the apron. Some of my Wrinkle Ribbon, a scrap of the fabric from the apron fabrics and a tied Vintage Button finish off the card. Some of my carnival tickets from my Etsy shop were stamped with words from Just For You. Background images in pink (flower, heart and recycled image)were stamped on the carnival tickets too. I just love how this card turned out! What a perfect little gift ensemble.
However, after we started having some photo fun, I realized that this apron will have to stay in the family. My dad got the bright idea that we should all model my newly made apron. Here he is in all his skinny-ness...cooking up a storm.
Photo title: Men wear aprons too!
Camo goes with everything.

Then there's me in all my plumple-ness.
Photo title: It comes in my size, YES!

Next up is my mom. Isn't she cute in the apron? Makes me think back to the days when my mom spent hours in the kitchen, cooking for all of us kids.
Photo title: Granny don't cook no more.
Where are you taking me for Mother's Day dinner?

And then there's these two little red headed yahoos.
Photo title: Love. Love will keep us together.
That and Mom tied a knot in the apron 'til she got the photo taken.

And last but certainly not least, there is he-man Eric. He was not in favor of the apron photo shoot at all. But my dad and I hog tied him until we got it on him. I gave him a meat pounder to hold to make him look more manly.
Photo title: Get me the h*ll out of this thing already
and don't show this to anyone.

Hope you enjoyed my post today. What a fun Mother's Day for me! I can't wait to scrapbook the apron photos. What a hoot that was!!

omgosh, Michelle, I am all by myself laughing out loud reading your post today! I can sooooo relate! I love to sew and have been ignoring my beautiful machine (my sweet hub gifted me with) since moving 3 years ago...in favor of stamping...I think you may have given me the incentive to drag it out and at least set it up...I can sew and stamp!
