October Afternoon Quilt Card

I'll be heading off to Chicago for CHA very soon! I'm working half days at the Copic booth, a few hours at the JustRite booth on Friday and the rest of the time, I'll be walking the floor to scope out all the cool new products coming out soon. And I get to meet up with lots of friends. It will be a good time! I'll take photos and let you know my favorite finds when I return on Sunday! Some girls asked how you go to CHA....you can go as a vendor who has products or you can go as a retailer who wants to purchase products. For girls like me, you can either go by working in vendor booth as part of the design team or you can tag along with a retailer friend who is kind enough to acquire a badge for you. It's a great time!!

Remember that old quilt that I rescued from the garage sale. This is it. It's worn and tattered but I love it anyway! How could you not admire the hard work that someone did? I love to think that these scraps were probably leftovers from someone's dress or curtains many years ago. I was inspired to make a crazy quilt card of sorts. Here's my sketch and I've got lots more that will work with the small squares of the Papertrey Quilter's Sampler sets too so stay tuned.
I chose lots of patterns from my new October Afternoon papers. I could just swim in these papers!!
Then I took my 3/4" square punch and punched out a square from each sheet of patterned paper.....then arranged them on the bottom of my card in rows.
For the top of my card, I colored one Ohio Star block from the PTI Quilter's Sampler set....and then layered it up with the new Label die from Spellbinder's. Isn't that little label so cute?
I also used some fun colored buttons...dressed buttons......which means they have to be tied up with string, etc. Piney would be proud that my buttons are not *naked*. :) I finished off the card with a PTI sentiment from the Quilter's Sampler Sentiments set, inked the edges with Ranger Distress Ink and tied on a pretty polka dot ribbon from PTI.
I love the quirkiness this card has....kinda crazy, eclectic colors. Just like an quilt might have! Woohoo, still having fun with these amazing sets from Papertrey Ink!!

How cool! I'm waiting for my PTI order, but what a GREAT idea for some old papers that I'm now wondering "why did I ever buy that"! Cool...great idea! Can't wait to see more ideas for this fabulous stamp set. Eager to see more quilt squares too from Nichole/PTI. Got me jazzed! Have a great time at CHA!

Love how you combined the Label 1 nestie with the PTI quilt block stamp. Great combo. Quilt cards are a lot quicker to make than a quilt :-D
Have fun at CHA

OK you just solved my dilema. I knew I wanted to use the Lockhart quilt block that I have cut out and make the card look like a quilt with squares but wasn't sure how to place it. It's sitting in my card box to work on. Perfect timing - love your layout and it fits perfectly for my friend who quilts. A perfect Christmas gift for her - TFS. Can't wait to see what you share from CHA - have fun.

I always love your cards, but have never left a coment. I just wanted to let you know that the quilt from the yard sale looks like it was made in the 30's or 40's. From what I could see of the fabrics, there were alot of flour sack fabrics in there. The wise house wife would buy flour in the pretty fabric sacks, so she could reuse the fabric in quilts, dresses, and such. Again I love your cards.

Mish, I love this card! I have a couple quilts that look very loved and worn like this. One from an auction for $8 and another that Dh's g'ma was going to burn!!!!! It was one that her mother and MIL made together as a wedding gift to her and her DH! But it was kinda ratty, so she was just going to burn it. She couldn't believe I wanted it, but I did and still have it today.
Your card reminds me of my g'ma who made "postage stamp" quilts. I can remember visiting her and she would be tracing around a little piece of cs on old dresses, shirts, etc. She had traced a postage stamp (hence the name) and then sewed every one of the pieces BY HAND to make a quilt. She made FIVE of them this way for each of her children. I was VERY blessed that my mom gave me the quilt as it wasn't "her thing". Thank you for bringing back the wonderful memories!!

This is gorgeous. You should think about putting these on etsy in different color combos and I bet you could sell a TON!!!

This card totally makes me think of a quilt that my Grandma made me that is on my bed right now! It's a double wedding ring quilt - made with pieces of shirts, pants, and dresses of her kids. Beautiful!

I love this card Michelle!! I am (not so) patiently waiting for my PTI order. I have a quilt very much like the one picture in your blog. It was a wedding gift back in 1987. The marriage didn't last, but I still have and use that quilt.

This wa my absolute favorite card from that set! I like that you went out on your own and used pieces of the set instead of creating a whole quilt with the stamps. I love these papers too! Superb!

I just purchased the Copic Ciao colored pens. How do you keep them from bleeding through the paper/card? I have tried using the quilting stamps, and still get bleed through. What do you do for this.
