Banner Builder Revisited

Hi there. It's October 1st....and my Jordan turns 13 today so Happy Birthday to her!! The Senior girls at Papertrey have some projects for you today. We're making holiday banners using the great banner building dies. I am using the Boxy Banners set of dies for my project but be sure to check out the triangular Basic Banners and the Banner Borders at this link.

For my holiday banner...or garland as I refer to it......I started out by cutting the small and large Boxy Banners from felt and some Michael Miller fabric. Both products cut nicely with the dies. If you need to shim a little bit, start with a piece of folded copy paper, then work your way up to a thickness of cardstock if you need to. Mine cut beautifully with just a few thread snips on the material.

I'm using my garland as a holiday decoration in the reds' new lounge room. I wanted to create a garland that could be interchangeable and a little bigger in size so that I can change out just one banner for each holiday/occasion. To do this, I created a paper bag base to go under each felt/fabric piece. I saw this idea on Pinterest and knew that I had just the right paper bags from my shop to do the trick (more in the shop later). I used a store bought binding as the garland string to hand it on the wall. Thinking ahead, I spaced the sacks far enough apart that I could clip on additional accents like a triangular piece if I wanted to. Everything that I add from this point on will be removable by using clothespins or little clips.
I knew I wanted to add my homespun flair to this project so I went to work creating some die cut star accents (from the Seeing Stars Die Collection) that are topped with circles cut from an old, tattered quilt. My mom stitched me up five pretty yo-yo's that are topped with Vintage Buttons and baker's twine from PTI.

Note: I've had this beautiful line of Michael Miller fabric in my stash for some time and thought it would be very suitable for the girls' lounge. I'm hoping maybe Jordy might want to take on a new quilt project using the remainder of the fabrics. So many quilts, so little time.....
So on to the embellishments for my garland. For each banner section I wanted to layer on a yo-yo + some sort of embellishment. I decided to work with Button Cards and layered PTI die cuts using a holiday chipboard line from Crate Paper.

This embellished button card features die cut and stamped snowflakes from Snowfall Additions along with Button Boutique stamps and tied Vintage Buttons. Love the cheery colors on this one. Each embellishment is clipped to the garland with a glittered clothespin.
This pieces uses a Mat Stack 4 die and is layered with a chipboard snowman topped with tied Vintage Buttons.
Another Button Card embellishment layered with tied Vintage Buttons, chipboard pieces and a cute stamped and die cut snowflake. The key here is lots of little layers and pop dots. Makes for major cuteness.
Here's another Mat Stack die layered with chipboard deer and snowflake.
And another Button Card layered stamped with colorful stamps from the Button Boutique stamp set + layers of chipboard accents, buttons on a string, snowflake + glittered jingle bell.
A few close ups of the button cards. Just keep adding little bits and pieces. The baker's twine adds some dimension and additional cuteness.
Here you can see my star accents and yo-yo's along with another button card.
Add a few rhinestones here and there for extra sparkle. Love.
Once I had all my embellishments, it was show time. I added the yo-yo's to my fabric piece with simply pop dots so that I could remove them if needed. The rest of the embellishments were clipped on with clothespins.
And here's what the entire garland looks like spread out. It was hard to photograph on the wall due to shadows but I think you can get the idea here on my little side table.
Hope you'll join me as I hop around to the other girls' blogs to check out their banners:

New kit in the shop today...

My newest crafty kit will be up in my Etsy shop shortly. This kit features some of my favorite new papers from Sassafras' Sunshine Broadcast papers. I'm loving this color combo lately of muted mustard yellows with grayish/blues.
The kit will work well with cardmaking, scrapbooking, gift wrap, tags, etc.
The kit is loaded with fun, handmade embellishments like the pennant flag, punched butterfly circle doodad, tied buttons, strips of washi tape, a large felt circle doodad, a glittered clothespin and some hand sewn yo-yo's that Jordan whipped up for me.
Lots of dimensional goodness to add a homespun look to your projects.
Plus I've added in some manila parcel tags that are stamped with Technique Tuesday stamps from Ali Edwards. These are tied up with mustard yellow and grayish/blue yarn. You'll also receive one yard of pretty gray seam binding. Stay tuned for a fun ruffled tag made with that soon. :)
I'm currently working on a week of my Project Life where I plan to use these embellishments on the journaling cards + on a few more extra layouts I have for this particular week. I'll be updating the blog soon with more Project Life layouts + maybe a few projects made with any left over kit items. Enjoy!

If you like the look of the Sassafras Sunshine Broadcast papers, you can find more from the line at Two Peas here. I think my favorite paper from the line is this one. I'm also loving the reverse side of this great polka dot with the ledger type lines.

Also, stay tuned for tomorrow's post.....I've got block #2 done for my art quilt. :)

Now this is a fun gift.....

Need a fast but oh so sweet gift for Valentine's Day? It's coming up soon. :) Candy is the ultimate quick and easy gift and with a little fun packaging, you'll have a basket full of gifts in no time.

Here I've used my long Notebook Slicks to package up two regular size Reese's candy bars and 4 Ghiradelli raspberry filled chocolates. The entire family can enjoy this sweet little package. You could also fill the Notebook Slicks with items like Pixie Sticks, packages of gum, licorice whips....lots of possibilities for the goodies you can tuck inside.
Using a Medium Manila Tag + some Crate Paper patterned paper and sticker + a Dainty Doily + a lace Yo Yo, I created a beautiful tag that is finished off with machine stitching. Attach with some fluffy ribbon around the filled Notebook Slick and you're good to go. I love that the goodies can be seen through the clear packaging.....instant gratification when the recipient sees this one. :)
Thanks for stopping by today. Stay warm!

Yo Yo Jar Cards

EDIT: Wow, you guys shop fast. The Yo Mamas are sold out right now. My mom is tickled pink. She's probably whipping up yo yos as fast as she can! Thanks so much, you made her day!!

Hi friends. Watching the winter weather progress here in Kansas. Freezing rain right now with possibly 10" of snow coming. What? So much for my thoughts of Spring, right?

Today I have some adorably sweet cards to show you along with a new addition to my Etsy shop. If you've been following my blog then you know that my mom has been stitching up Yo Yo's like crazy. Each day she brings me over her little completed Yo Yo's in a baggie. After building up quite a stash, I think it's time that I share some with you.

But first, let's see what we can do with Yo Yo's. Using inspiration from Tara Anderson, I created these shabby, layered cards featuring Friendship Jar and the coordinating jar die.
On the stamped and die cut jars, I stitched on layers of patterned paper and lace. A purple Yo Yo with a stitched on button was added on top. Behind the jar is more die cut patterned paper and a Dainty Doily.
Extra Vintage Buttons tied with Rustic Twine, rhinestones(you can find other colors from PTI here) and small stamped hearts were the finishing touches.
For the bottom of my cards, I reached up on the shelf for my misters to create a fun sentiment accent. Using a PTI scalloped border die, I cut a piece of scrap paper and masked off a scallop on my cardstock base. I sprayed the mist to create a white blank area. This is where I stamped my sentiment from Simple Sentiments. A great way to add faux texture and dimension to card without creating extra layers. Above the sentiment I added some scrap snippets of patterned paper, securing them down with my sewing machine. The small label punch is from EK Success, also pulled down from the shelf.
Oh how I love these shabby, sweet cards. If you'd like to create some cards like mine, I'm now offering my mom's sweet Yo Yo's in my Etsy shop. I'm offering up a package of 5 Yo Yo's (four large circles and one small heart). They're packaged up oh so cute and are ready to go.

A Mishie story: Every time I call my mom now she answers the phone with a "Yo Yo" gangsta greeting. It cracks me up every time. So I have lovingly named my mom's Yo Yo's......you can now get a package of Yo Mama Yo Yo's in the shop very soon. :)

They come adhered to a plastic sheet with a cute Created by Yo Mama tag and ribbon.
Oh so cute and adorable. Stay tuned for more fun ideas using the Yo Mamas soon. :)
