October Afternoon challenge....using hearts

Hi everyone, today I'm joining Mou over at the October Afternoon blog for challenge of using hearts in a creative way.  You can see Mou's project and my cards at the OA blog here.

I decided to create some cards using some hand cut "fluttering" hearts.  I'm always reminded of my grade school days when I think of creating Valentines.  The old school way of cutting out hearts and creating handmade Valentines has never grown old.  So today I used a white heart paper doily as a pattern and cut out a basic heart shape.  I then folded the heart in half and kept cutting out concentric heart shapes.
On my two cards I used every other heart shape on each card so that the white paper heart doily showed through.
I flipped up all the heart shapes so that they were "fluttering" and had some dimension.  This card has a button embellishment with tied baker's twine.  All of the papers and embellishments I used today are from the October Afternoon Farm Girl collection.  I love the homespun feel and the contrast of the denim looking patterned paper gives a little country feel to the card.  I used my typewriter to create the sentiment on the label.
On this card I created a wad of messy string which was topped with a cherry brad.  I used my typewriter again to type on the label.  I could use gobs of those labels on canned jams and jellies.  On both cards I stitched down all the layers of the hearts with two back and forth lines of white stitching using my sewing machine.  No adhesive was needed.  I just stitched right onto the 4 x 4 piece of patterned papers before adhering them to my card fronts.
I love the dimension achieved by fluffing up the heart layers.
You can find the October Afternoon Farm Girl collection at 2 Peas at this link.

Some of my favorite products from this collection are the Pie Tin paper with this pretty floral pattern.
The back side of the Pin Tin paper above features this washed denim pattern.  Perfect for accents or use it as a base page for a layout.
The Designer Brads are always a favorite.  I want to hoard them but they're just too cute to leave in the package.  The label I used on my bottom card is actually the one from the brad package also.
And this Mason Jar paper.  Now come on, you KNOW I'd love this one!  I'm thinking of cutting out the individual images to use on gift tags for summer veggies.  Makes me want to dig in some dirt! Hurry up Spring.
And this cute Bowl of Cherries Washi tape.  The aqua and red color combination is just so cute.
Have you got your hands on some Farm Girl goodies yet?  What are you planning to create, I'd love to hear?

Oh, I LOVE the little cherry brad!!! I love your hearts, they're so beautiful in their simplicity. I have that cherry washi (I am cherry obsessed), but I haven't actually used it yet... must crack it open! ;)
