A new baby on the way

I just got a call from the high school where I sub that our PE teacher and his wife and expecting their new baby girl today! What a wonderful journey they are about to begin. It seems like such a long time ago that my 8 and 10 year olds were babies. Ahhh, that new baby smell. Anyway, this card was commissioned by a teacher friend for the special occasion. I'm using a Wordsworth stamp called Baby. I just love the fun stick people that Wordsworth comes up with, they are so cute and EASY to color. You will be seeing a lot more cards from Rubber Soul and Wordsworth because I just started some blogging work for Dani and Fred. I met them at CHA and they are delightful folks!

This card uses a SU! chocolate chip cardstock base and cute pink and brown patterned papers from Target. The main image was colored in with Copic markers...very simple, just marker to paper coloring like you would do in a coloring book. Then I took my brand new Spellbinder's Standard Tag Die Template and cut and embossed a fun tag. Isn't it neat, I just love tags. I'm sure if you guys like this one, we can ask Ellen to carry it in the store. I inked up the edges with a brown ink pad to add some definition, added a big eyelet and some pink ribbon. Mounted the tag to the card front with SU! dimensionals and I was done! Oh, and those pink little flat beads.......hmm, stay tuned for more of those. :)
When I received my goody box from Dani and Fred at Rubber Soul, they sent a fun collection of stamps for me to give away. It was like Christmas! And I get to share with you guys. So in honor of the new baby, I'm giving away my first blog goodies! If you are the lucky winner, you will receive the Baby acrylic set and some fun baby embellishments shown below. All you have to do is leave a comment with your name and tell me one of your favorite childhood memories. I think my fondest memories as a child was growing up with my mother at home. She was always there to greet us when we got off the bus and we never had to go to a babysitter. She always had some homemade goodies as treats and we got to play outdoors for hours and hours until Dad got home from farming. Those were GOOD days!
I will select a winner on Saturday evening so be sure to leave a comment and feel free to tell your friends! I will ask the winner for an email address so that I can contact you for a mailing address. And a big THANK YOU to Dani and Fred at Rubber Soul for the wonderful opportunity they have given me!!!

Coming from a big italian family, my fondest childhood memory would have to be spending my summer Sundays with my parents, brother and huge extended family eating around a huge table at our beach house. There were sometimes as many as 50 family members on any given Sunday. We ate lots of pasta and lots of homemade desserts! We still get together with everyone a few times during the summer so our children and nieces and nephews can have some wonderful memories also. I really enjoy your blog!!

OMG MISH!! This is so cute!!! Dang I was hoping it was you announcing a new baby on the way!!! LOL!! Favorite memory...our lake cottage in Michigan. Every summer was spent there. It's no longer there, but I have a beautiful watercolor painting hanging in my dining room.

How special, a baby...ahhhhh....So many favorite childhood memories, and not enough space. But...I can say that many revolve around growing up on the farm. I recently scrapped a 6 page spread about Farm Memories, and one layout was dedicated to a day where one of my sister's and I literally took a roll of film with her camera took all kinds of goofy farm pics. It was a fall day, we pretended to be running in the fields, posed and all, teetering on top of the haystack and made a zuccini scarecrow. What fun days...my hope and dreams are that my 2 children will be able to share the same when they are my age! Thanks for the blog, I admire your work.

Hi Michelle, cute card! My favorite memory as a child was going to town with my mom and then going to the soda shop.

Adorable...My favorite childhood memory is spending time at my Grandmother's home. She was the most caring, Christian woman I have ever known. She taught me everything I know about cooking, being a good mom and so much more. She always welcomed us and let us help her with whatever she was doing. She has been my role model and such a strong woman raising 8 children alone as my Grandfather passed away 3 weeks before my Dad was born.

Thanks for sharing!

OOOO, what a ton of fun stuff!!! My favorite childhood memory, was Christmastime when my dad would turn our whole front yard into Bethlehem. The whole yard (big) was covered in hay; he built a life-size stable complete with all the animals, wisemen, Holy family, angel, etc... He even built a huge star that lit up, and went high up on a very tall pole that could be seen clear across town. Cars would drive by in droves to view this magical scene (and when it snowed on this scene~oh MY!) which made our holidays even more special and memorable. He didn't stop at this though, he added those big cheesy colorful lights all over the house (a tradition I have picked up) and decorated a huge tree so bountifully, that there was no bare spot to be found. My mom would bake and make more candy and goodies than anyone could ever consume. My 6 kids constantly rag me about my OBSESSION for the holidays, (especially when I start the music up in Sept.), but I want them to have the same great memories that I had.

What a fun giveaway! Love your card, especially the "baby" script on the envelope. One of my favorite childhood memories is lying on the grass with my mom, staring up at the clouds. For a very brief moment, she was all mine ... I'm one of 6 kids!

Thanks for the chance to win some blog candy! The card is adorable! My favorite childhood memory is finding the change under my grandfather's recliner that "accidently" fell out of his pocket. My sister and I used to race to that chair every Saturday morning. And there was always change.

Many of my favorite childhood memories have to do with my grandparents. They lived just a couple of miles from my house and I saw them AT LEAST twice a week. My family had some problems and my mom (their daughter) ended up being a single mom, so they became vitally important in my growing up. One of my favorites, though is when they took me on a trip with them. We went to Alton, IL (where both of my parents grew up). We visited my Granny (my father's mother) and many relatives on both sides of the family. I learned how to read a road map on that trip and was put in charge of the road atlas. I saw the cabin where my grandfather was born, fed pigs at my great Aunt's farm (I am a city girl), and played endless hours of travel games. I think I was 9 or 10.

They are both gone now. But I treasure my memories of them and they continue to be an inspiration for my own life.

Cute Stamp! Nice card, too! Many of my favorite memories center around the summers we spent at our cottage on Lake Erie. We moved in as soon as school was out and stayed all summer going home once a week to mow the lawn and do the laundry. We returned home just in time for4 the start of school after Labor Day. Great times and Super Happy Memories!

Mish I want you to know that I'm a dedicated lurker to your blog. I love how easily you tell a story or explain something. Your work is just outstanding.
My childhood story: My best friend growing up (and still is today) lived 450 steps from my house. We used to skip all 450 steps and count them as we went. And every summer from kindergarten through high school we spent everyday together. We laugh about that to this day.

Thanks so much for all the beautiful and creative ideas! You have turned me into a stamping maniac since you give wonderful directions on HOW to achieve the look!

I don't know if it is my favorite childhood memory, but it is the one that we still talk about most. I have girl cousins and our mother's liked to dress us all in matching outfits, so there are so many pictures like that of us when we were growing up. The conversation goes something like... "remember the time we went to (insert place) and we were all wearing (insert outfit)"

My favorite childhood memory is riding the train with my mom from IL to AR to visit my great aunt at Christmas. We would sleep in the pullman car and eat breakfast in the dining car--bacon and scrambled eggs. I remember the white linen table cloths and napkins and the stiff and starched black porter with a big friendly smile on his face and a linen cloth folded over his forearm!!! If I close my eyes I can almost hear the clickity clack of the train and tracks and feel the swaying motion!!!!

Seeing the buttons in your picture made me think of the time I stuck a button up my nose for some godforsaken reason and couldn't get it out. I tried to tell my parents, but it came out as 'bunny' instead of 'button' because my nose was plugged up and they just kept saying 'oh dear you don't have a bunny in your nose'. Eventually they looked and had to use tweezers to get it out.

One of my best childhood memories is the year my parents rented a beach house, and my mom's siblings and spouses invaded. All the 'beverage' cans were collected, bottoms removed, and the next day we children were treated to an incredibly engineered sand castle city, with elaborate drainage systems (the cans), that allowed the cit to withstand high tide.
I look back now and wonder how the grownup did all that work after the beverages ....

I grew up in Dublin, Ireland and my favorite childhood memories are actually of going to the beach, which of course didn't happen that often in Ireland! The beach we used to go to you could drive your car onto the sand and when it was time to go home (we were usually one of the last ones to leave) me and my brother and sister would climb onto the boot (trunk) of the car while my dad did figure 8's on the sand, not going fast enough that we'd fall off but fast enough to make us squeal with delight! Fun times. Michelle, I love your blog and check it religously and because of you I am now the proud owner of a Wizard machine and I love it. I was all set to get a Cuttlebug when I read your post about the plates breaking and how much you loved the all-metal Wizard machine. So thank you for that :o)

my favorite childhood memory has to do with halloween...my sister and i had been out (by ourselves--i know that dates me) collecting candy, and when we came home to our front door, there was someone with a decorated bag over their face, and we had to guess who it was before we could enter. we guessed the neighbor boys, but couldn't figure out who it was. finally, the person reached up with his hand (i think he was about to laugh his mask off) and i saw a ring on his finger and knew it was my dad. it was so out of character for him to behave so silly-ly that i've never forgotten it.

Cute Card! One of my favorite memories is about one of my uncles who lived up the road from us. We had a country store that had a gumball machine. When you put your nickle in, if you got a speckled gumball, you got to get something free out of the candy case. Everytime I went to the store and my uncle was there, he would give me a nickle to get a gumball and everytime I would get a speckled ball. I thought he had magic nickles. Such a pretty card, adorable stamps! I like simplicity. My favorite memory is sitting on the living room floor building Lincoln Log (remember those??) buildings with my older brother and my dad. That always helped me remember that my own children will remember the little times we spent together and not necessarily the expensive vacation to DisneyWorld.

Hi Michelle,
Love the baby card. Some of my favorite childhood memories are going camping with my my mom and dad and brother. I just love the whole camping experience and now I take my own kids!

I was always nuts about horses. when I was little, every Sunday my dad would take me out to "the country" and take me for a pony ride. Not just one ride, I would get to ride on each of the ponies they had.

Love the baby card!!

My favorite childhood memory was every Sunday morning we would go to my Grandma's house for breakfast. My Aunt, Uncle and Cousins would come too. It was a good time. We would go to church on Saturday so we wouldn't have to miss breakfast at Grandma's

My favorite memory was my grandmother and 1st cousins lived across the street and my best girlfriend lived next door and we ran from house to house and would play kick the can til it was so dark you couldn't see. And then the dreaded call *Kids come in*

What a great giveaway, thanks for sharing. Love the baby card too - really like that big baby stamp on the envelope - very cool! My favorite childhood memory would be crawling up on Granddad's lap to sit and rock. He had a pipe - I don't remember him smoking it, just having it in his mouth and I loved the smell of his tobacco. It was Granddad's smell!

Hmmm... my fondest memory from my childhood was a camping tour across the United States. At the time, my parents owned a dinky little pop-up camper and the summer I graduated from elementary school we travelled from Maryland to Texas to California and then back across the middle. Highlights from the trip were the Great Smoky Mtns., cousins in Texas I'd never met, the Painted Desert and Grand Canyon, and the best one of all... Disneyland!

Thank you for all of your inspiration and for sharing your artistic talent with us. My favorite childhood memories are spending the summers with my cousins and friends in Spain. Experiencing another culture was so much fun that I can't wait to take my children there so they too can see where their grandmother grew up.

What an adorable baby girl card! I toally enjoy your blog!! My favorite childhood memory....there are tons since there were 7 of us kids. Since going to restaurants was out of the questions, my father would take 2 of us at a time and we would go to this "hole in a wall" coney dog place and watch the old owners make several dozen coney dogs for us to take home and devour. To this day when I go back home my mother and some of my siblings and I always make it to the exact same place and get some of these great coney dogs. The old guys are gone, but their kids and grandkids still run the place and I always think of my dad when I'm there! Warm fuzzy memories!!

Hi! My favorite childhood memory (how can I pick just one?!?!?) is when my mom and dad would take us out on snowmobiles into the tundra of Alaska. We'd be so bundled up only our eyes would show! Did you know you can have a hot dog roast in the winter? Such blessed memories! Thanks for the contest!

Your baby card is so stinking cute! I love it. My favorite childhood memory would have to be going to Grandma's and having homemade noodles and raspberries. Yummy. I just inherited her hutch from her kitchen with some of her china. I am in heaven!

Hi Michele - your card is darling! One of my fondest memories is going to my paternal grandfather's and spending time with him in his garden - which was huge! - He didn't live to see me get married (at 40!) but after weeks of rain before the wedding, we had the most gorgeous sunshiny day, I'm sure thanks to him! I still miss him.

One of my favorite childhood memories, was that every saturday, all my cousins would meet up at my house and my mom would pop a fe huge paper grocery bag filled with popcon and we would all walk together to the neighborhood theater to watch some wonderfully exciting movie!! It was great growing up in a "neighborhood" where all of your family was in walking distance!

Love that little stick family! My favourite childhood memories are of summers on the farm. Of all my cousins, I was the only one who was born and raised in the city but every school holiday was spent with my grandparents in the country. My grandpa had a huge garden and I used to love helping him pick stuff and dig up potatoes. There never used to be any peas on the lower parts of the plants because their dog Yogi used to pick them and then bring them to me all slobbery and gross to shell them for him - because he only liked the peas not the pods! Next summer I will have my first garden of my own - I suspect it will be more work and less fun than I remember but I can't wait! - trish

Cute card. One of my favorite childhood memories is having a picnic out in the yard. Sometimes we would just make a fire in a rock circle and roast hotdogs and marshmallows on sticks my dad cut from the lilacs.

Very nice baby card! My favorite childhood memory is going to the local five and dime with my little sister and mom to buy crayons and color books. Each of us brought home a brand new 24 pack of crayons and two color books. We would sit around the kitchen table for hours coloring...all three of us. Yep, mom had her own crayons and color books, too. We always oohed and ahhed over each others' pages. Just loved those times. Thanks for the chance to win the wonderful stamp set and goodies.

Still hoping to win my first blog candy. My fondest childhood memories were our Sunday dinners and Christmas time. Also special nurturing when I was not feeling well. We four girls were also fortunate enough that our mom was always there for us when we got home from school.

Thanks for hosting a great giveaway--love the set and what you've done with it! My favorite childhood memory, growing up in Chicago, was exploring the Museum of Science & Industry--both as a student on a field trip with my school or with my Mom, who always made sure we stopped at the Fairy Castle where I stared in awe at the amazing miniatures. Ah, I miss home:(!

So many great memories from my childhood that it is tough to choose. I would have to say that playing basketball in the driveway with my 2 brothers for hours and hours everyday would be right up there.

Oh I hope I'm not late! My favorite memory is making candles with my mom and her friends. My parents were definitely "hippies" so we made a lot of things by hand. For some reason though I remember with a smile making candles. Thanks for making me smile!

I liked when we'd go on vacation and my dad and I would get up early to go on a bike ride by ourselves and watch the sun rise. I remember it like it was yesterday, and trust me, it wasn't! :)

I might be too late to comment (behind on my blog surfing!) but my favorite childhood memory is when my grandmother used to take me "downtown" for the day on a shopping trip. We would dress up in Sunday clothes and even wear gloves! and take the bus to the shopping area of old downtown St. John's. She would buy me lunch at Woolworths and we would just have the best time browsing through all the older stores that I never would normally shop in. She was such a fun grandmother!

My fondest memories of my chldhood are of the wonderful days I spent on with my grandparents on their farm. From the time I was very little until I started school, I would spend weeks at a time with them, just tagging along behind Grandma or Grandpa in their daily chores. I can smell the air, feel the sunshine on my face and remember such feelings of comfort and security with those memories. :)

I'd have to say one of my favorite childhood memories was on Christmas Day seeing sleigh marks in the snow and discovering a pinball machine in the basement and wondering how Santa got it there. It's something that will forever stick with me and I still to this day do not know how my parents did it!
