Holiday 2008 Inspiration Station

Good morning my lovelies, how are we today? It's an exciting week in the Wooderson household. Josey has her first basketball game tonight. She gets to play Junior Varsity AND suit up for Varsity tonight. Pretty exciting news for a newbie 6th grader! Jordan plays this weekend and gets to be ball girl tomorrow night at the local girls' university game. I looked at my calendar for November last night and there is ONE day left that I have nothing planned. ONE day, all the rest are filled with ballgames, practices, or other events. Thank goodness gas prices are down! Plus we went clothes shopping for Josey over the weekend. Needless to say, the girl has good taste and has finally moved up to the name brand stores. The girl about broke me on two outfits for dress up days! AND, I'm embarrassed to say that I got a speeding ticket (driving awards as my friend Suze calls them) last Friday.....in a school zone.....coming from the slowest driver in the world. I won't even tell you how much that one cost me! I told Eric he might have to get a second job just to support us girls....SNORT!! I don't think he even laughed one bit.

Well how about we move on to something CREATIVE? I know you've been patiently waiting for it, so here is my 2008 Holiday Inspiration Station. I looked all through my stash and I can actually say that I don't have a ton of goodies for the holiday season. I need a few more fun embellishments...sounds like a trip to my local scrapbook store and Archiver's in in store. Oh wait, there's that pesky speeding ticket I need to pay for. I'll make due with what I have!!

I started filling up my divided, wooden drawer with goodies.
I have felt snowflakes from Stampin' Up! (I think the snowflakes are going to be my theme this winter season.) And I scored a bunch of those vintage, blue tags from an antique store this Fall. I can't wait to dress them up. There were buckets full of them!
Then I found some glittered foam stars at Walmart. Some stray ribbon spools and my little tin cup full of goodies.
We can't forget the ribbon. Josey helped me spool it up....gotta put that girl to work to pay for her new, expensive outfits, right? (Karen, it's a Longaberger :) basket) Ribbon will probably be my *go to* embellishment this year. I love ribbon!
And Walmart has a ton of Christmas goodies from Martha Stewart. I purchased this Snow Glitter to use on an upcoming project. Fun stuff!
Let's get glitterfied, girls! Martha also has lots of glitter packs this year. I found this Frosty Gingerbread Glitter Pack at Walmart. I store these in a little, tin drinking cup I found at a junk store.
And the snowflake punches by Marvy. You can find them at Papertrey Ink and they coordinate with Pine's snowflakes sets. They just beg to be glitterfied! They are BIG too. Try punching them while on a hard surface and using the palms of both hands to punch. The details are intricate on the snowflakes so you have to use some muscles!
Patterned paper, need I say more? I actually used a ton of my paper stash up while creating my December Daily Album. I could use a few more sheets.
Buttons Baybee!! Gotta love the buttons!
And here's a little sneak peek of an upcoming project I'll be working on. I got all these goodies from Michael's. There's red and white snowflake cupcake liners, giant white muffin liners, wooden snowflakes, and Martha Stewart baker's twine. And underneath are some Kraft colored boxes. I hope this project turns out as good as I'm envisioning.
And since I'm an experience quilter now (one quilt block under my belt, ya know!), I have to include some fabric finds. I got this pretty candy cane striped fabric at my local quilt shop. And I found the jingle bells at Walmart. These will be used on the project above.
I also picked up some wonderful wool and felt at my local quilt shop. I have ideas just racing through my mind for these fuzzy finds.
And there ya have it, folks. That should be enough to get me inspired this winter. I'm hoping to have a totally homespun-like holiday....lots of handmade gifts, using a lot of the supplies I have on hand, enjoying my family and friends....snuggling up by the fire. I wish you a holiday with all of these things also. Have you compiled your Holiday Inspiration Station yet? Well, what are you waiting for honey?

Hi, This doesn't have anything to do with the beautiful inspiration station you created, but I wanted to tell you something special.

I asked my Religion Class to make cards for the make a child smile kids. We made and sent 20 cards. There were only 9 children in the class! Thank you so much for bringing me to this website! God Bless!

Hey Michelle... I just love your work and your inspiration station.
Can you tell me where you get your clothespegs for your ribbon. I am up in Canada and can't find them anywhere... Can I purchase them online?
Thanks much

I love your new banner and how you change it for the seasons! From what I can see, and assuming it is a picture of your home, I think you have a beautiful home! It's so warm, cozy and welcoming!! Even the way you organize your crafts is beautiful! I love your style!

It sure looks like you are going to have some fun things to show us. Gotta love snowflakes!!

Perhaps one day you will show us your new quilting blocks, too :) TFS

Well, you have "kicked me in the fanny" regarding Christmas projects. I really must start my inspiration station! I was hoping to be in a new house before Christmas, but I'm tired of waiting, so I'll just start gathering stuff and putting it in a box so I can find it when I'm ready. Thank you so much! Waiting impatiently for your "project" with the snowflakes, kraft boxes and Christmas twine. Thanks for sharing!

Love all your choices for your Christmas projects!! You really have a knack for assembling elements that go together..I am sure we will see some fabulous projects! If you get the chance, what company makes the candy-cane striped fabric? I have some similar scraps from probably 15 years ago that I am hoarding!!

Oh Mish!!!! I just love your commentary as much as I love reading about your inspiration station AND your projects. Hmmmm wonder if you have another adorable cupcake kit coming up?

Those tags!!!! I love them! I have never seen blue ones. That is sooo cool. Can't wait to see what you come up with using them.

I plan on having a homespun Christmas as well. I love making gifts for Christmas. We did some MAJOR canning this year (actually I had to teach DH how to do most of it as I am working full time now and weekends is just not long enough to get it all done), so there will be some fun gifts using our homemade applesauce, apple pie filling, spaghetti sauces as well as salsas, and jellies (my favorite thing to make.)

I have lots of wool felt, so I am really curious as to what you have planned for yours.

I hope to get my inspiration station set up soon. Unfortunately it is upstairs and I have bronchial pneumonia and can't do much right now, but I will have to share with you when I do. Ü

Thank you so much for sharing with us.

Debbie
PS are you getting the nasty weather we are? Lots of freezing rain right now (had to keep pulling over coming home from school to clean off the windshield wipers) and we are to have up to
8" of snow by morning. I am hoping for a snow day! Ü

Hi,

Interesting that you get inspired by supplies and I get inspired by looking at blogs like yours.

This past Saturday, while using a large scalloped edged rectangle punch, the punch worked better when I put pressure on different corners then pressed directly over the metal cutter, not the handle. I don't know if that will work for the snowflake.?.

Have fun stamping and creating.
