All Booked Up

Reading is such a simple pleasure in life. There's nothing like snuggling up with a good book and a favorite quilt and just getting lost in the story. One of my friends is a librarian and she turns me onto some really good books. She loves for me to make bookmarks for the high school library and her other librarian friends. Bookmarks make great little gifts that are inexpensive but well loved. Let's get started on a fun project, shall we?

Today's Papertrey Group Post assignment was to create a bookmark and card gift ensemble. I chose to make a pocket card that my two bookmarks will fit into. The perfect gift that will be put to good use! My finished pocket card is below. The finished card size is still an A2 card. I used up a ton of my scraps just lying around on my messy, messy work table. The bookmarks peek up out of the pocket created by stitching my card together to form a pocket. On the bottom of the card, more fun elements are tucked underneath the pocket. Lots of crafty eye candy on this one.
Here's my two completed bookmarks. Nichole has created a delightful bookmark die so that you can make bookmarks til the cows come home. Oh, how I love it! And located on the same bookmark die is a small circle cut out which lets you add a little reinforcement to the bookmark hole.
Here's a shot of how I pieced together my bookmarks. Simply die cut the bookmarks and then adhere strips of papers, ribbon, tags, etc to the bookmark front. Turn the bookmarks over and trim off the excess.
For the top of my bookmarks, I used PTI patterned papers, die cut felt flowers and the XL Rick Rack die.
To embellish my bookmarks, I used Nichole's new All Booked Up stamp set. She's designed lots of fun sentiments and images for this great set. On the left, I stamped a sentiment onto one of my Carnival Tickets from my Etsy shop. On the right, I colored one of the circle images with Copic markers. The round images can be cut out easily with a 1-3/4" circle punch.
For the bottom of my bookmarks, I used Small Manila Parcel Tags from my Etsy shop in a fun way. Add patterned paper to the tags, stitch and adhere to the bookmarks. Trim off the excess.
Below are the Copic colors I used to color the circle image.
Here's some shots of the bookmarks tucked inside the pocket card. I used the same papers and elements that I used on the bookmarks. More felt flowers, Vintage Buttons, patterned paper and ribbon....all from Papertrey.
On the bottom of my card, I used more Carnival Tickets from my Etsy shop, embellished with patterned paper, ribbon and a felt flower. I used a Large Manila Tag embellished with more patterned paper, a stamped quote from All Booked Up and machine stitching. Such a fun and colorful gift. These would make great teacher gifts....or back to school cards for kids....or you can start thinking about early holiday gifts too.
Nichole thought it would be fun if we talked about some of our favorite books at the moment. My all time favorite books so far are the Elm Creek Quilter's series of books that Nichole introduced to us when her quilting stamp set was released. My faves!

On my reading list now is Eclipse! I promised myself that I would not see the movies before I read the books. Well, the Eclipse movie came out a week or so ago and I can't stand it. I have to see it while it's in the theatre so I bought the book and have been doing some marathon reading. Let me just say that I was reluctant to start reading these books. Vampires? Werewolves? Not my style. But I am hooked.
Eat, Pray, Love is next up on my reading list. Julia Roberts is starring in the moving coming out this summer. She's one of my favorite actresses so I must read the book first and then go see the movie.
I can't leave out my favorite old books, rescued from the junk shops. I love to sit them around and use the pages for crafty projects.
I picked up this little book because the illustrations are so darling.
I think I might cut it apart and use it for my Daily December album this year.
And these two books just called my name....literally! :) I couldn't let them go. Mishmash is a dog in these books written in the 1960's. Don't know what I'm going to do with them yet but I couldn't resist.
Well, I hope you are having a great summer...are getting some reading time in....and that you enjoyed my post today. Please join me as I blog hop to the other PTI designers' blogs for more great bookmark creations:

Ugh...such cute bookmarks. Now I'll need to add the die to my list! :) I'm reading Eclipse too! I'm sure you're WAY ahead of me... I only just recently got to page 300! I'm like you...don't want to see the movie until I finish the book. :) Happy reading!

I am currently reading eat, pray, love and am STRUGGLING. It's ok, I am halfway through, I just can't seem to get to the good part. She seems to be doing an aweful lot of whining and I can't stand whiney women. Just my thoughts. I am still going to see the movie though!

beautiful projects! I knew you'd have some fun creating reading items! Already read the twilight books, may read them all again! Just read the latest Stephanie Plum novel by Janet Evanovich (Sizzling Sixteen) and a John Saul book this week.

Love your bookmarks! Adorable!
Get finished with that book, the movie is great. I didn't think I would like this vampire stuff either, but as you know it really isn't a vampire series, it's a love story and I totally enjoyed all the books. Saw the movie on Sunday with my daughter and loved it!

I knew that you would have fun with this stamp set and die since you are the bookmark aficionado. Those carnival tickets look particularly good on the bookmark.

When you make this type of a card, do you sign the card on the back or on the bookmark? Also, the first photo doesn't get bigger when clicked. All the others do, so could you possibly fix the first photo please, so that I can look at it magnified?

You have the best eye for putting scraps together. I love all things "Mish".

Super cute project Michelle! I felt the same way about the Twilight books but was totally hooked once I started reading them all. I've collected children's books for years and love them starting with my mother's Raggedy Ann & Andy book from when she was a child (the pages are like silk). I'm a reader and love the look of this new PTI set!

Great projects girl!! So...don't the movies just disappoint you after the book...they never live up to my expectations!

Great project, so cute! Question -if you adhere the papers and such to the base, would the die cut through all of that? It would save having to trim later.
