No Bake Cookies

Edit: Oops, I made an error on the Just Rite stamps. The recipe set DOES NOT come with the wooden stamper. The new 1-3/16" round wooden stamper is sold separately HERE. I made the corrections in my blog post too.

And, on my recipe card I listed butter and margarine both. It doesn't matter which you use, just throw a stick of something in there. :)

No Bake Cookies are by far the favorite and most prepared cookie at our house. Partly because we love them so much.....(what's not to love about peanut butter and chocolate?)......and partly because they're easy to make....no baking! I can remember in the old house we grew up in, that my mom would tape our favorite recipes to the inside of a cabinet door. That way, we wouldn't bug her all the time to get the recipe out and it was easy peasy to just swing open the door and look at the recipe. This recipe was one that got taped up because we made it so often. It's one of the first recipes I remember making all by myself. Mom had to help scrape the hot mixture into the pan but I did the rest by myself. Now my girls know how to make them too! And I think I'm going to tape the recipe to the inside of my cabinet too. Oh, and if you're like our family, half the recipe gets eaten while warm with a spoon. Everyone digs in and shares the same germs. That's when they're the best. Have milk handy. :) To start my recipe card (finished size 4" x 6"), I used a new stamp set that is coming out soon from Just Rite called Recipes Borders and Centers Set. You can preorder the set now, new 2009 products should begin shipping mid April. The set comes with the borders and centers sentiments, 1-3/16" wooden stamper is sold separately. It will be perfect for recipe cards.

I stamped my images onto white cardstock then cut them out with Spellbinders Circle and Scalloped Circle Die Templates. I love the tiny size of circles that you can get using the Spellbinders Dies, plus they match up perfectly with the Just Rite stamps. While my Circle Die was still in place, I used my Copic Airbrush System (available at Eclectic Paperie or Ellen Hutson's store) to spray ink over my circle, creating a crisp white edge when I removed the die.

Next is something NEW and FUN that I tried with my Copic Airbrush System. I wanted some lines on my recipe card that matched my Copic marker color I used on the circle accent. I didn't have stamp pads that matched, so I decided to experiment with making my own lines, using the exact color marker. Here's what I did:

I created a line template by simple cutting two scraps of cardstock. I spaced them apart equally on a grid background and taped the very outsides, leaving an open line between the two pieces of cardstock.

Next, I placed my highly technical template over my printed recipe card, still using my grid background to keep things straight. Then I airbrushed over the line. You can use a continuous sweeping motion or use quick bursts of air to cover the line with ink, it doesn't matter. Continue spraying ink until you get the desired shade of color. I did not tape my template down to my recipe card, so I ended up with a soft line. If you want a crisper line edge, you could certainly use a removable adhesive to tape the template down. Soft edges are fine with me, much less work.
Here's my finished recipe card below. As you can see if you zoom in, I airbrushed a line below each of the patterned paper strips (My Mind's Eye). I think when you airbrush on your projects, it increases the WOW factor immediately...making your projects look polished and professional.

I know I will definitely be using this airbrushing template idea a lot. In fact, if you'd like to purchase a template, please send $19.95 to me right now........aaaaaand if you order within the next thirty minutes, I'll include a BONUS template for FREE! Snort!! Just kidding.......don't send money......make your own, it's easy.

Wow these sound yummy. Makes me think of the times my mom would bake something for us. Love the recipe card and great technique. Don't have the airbrush system but that would be great with just a wide line from a marker. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy! :)

Oh what memories!! My mother has been gone for over 20 years, but I can still picture the inside of her kitchen cabinet doors...filled with recipes! Your post brought me a pang of loss...but only briefly. My mom made me a book that had all our famiy's favorite recipes when I got married. I have passed them on to my daughter. I had forgotten all about the "recipe doors".

Wow, this brings back memories. When I was a kid we used to make these too. I even remember them being served at school for lunch treats.

I love the airbrushing idea. Right after I learned to use Copics I bought an airbrush kit and used it... uh.... once! I need to get it out and play with it some more so it doesn't overwhelm me to think about using it. The effect is so awesome.

Thanks for the memories about the cabinet doors -- my mom has only been gone 4 years - it seems forever though. I hope my kids remember my cabinets doors the same way. If you come over now, you can see some recipes taped in there ... our favorite oatmeal cookies for one.... thanks ...

I haven't made these in years, but used to make them all the time as a kid at home. They were definitely a family favorite. I'm gonna have to re-introduce them to my family now. :)
