Think about it...

Just a few things to think about that I thought were worth sharing:

Check out Heidi Swapp's blog HERE. The first post is a fun one about her son's birthday. I was particularly intrigued by the handmade quilt Heidi's mother made for Heidi's son for his birthday. Totally made from repurposed t-shirts and jeans. So cool!! I have this on my list to do for the girls, saving their old tshirts and jeans.

Scroll down to Heidi's second post and read the going green sign she made. It says *fix it up, wear it out, make do, do without* and she's even given a printable link. I love that saying and am trying to go a little more green around here......throwing out stuff I don't need, making do with what we have, cutting down on expensive gifts, recycling, giving to others.

And check out Ali Edwards' blog HERE. Ali's always got something good up her sleeve. I love the idea of her December Daily album and would love to do one this year. Today she shows her album that is all ready to fill in with journaling and photos. Yesterday was her Day one post, talking about what album she chose and it shows last year's album too. I think you could set up an December Daily Inspiration Station and put this together pretty quickly. And how about using only supplies you already have in your stash? That would be an awesome challenge!

Sooo, what have you done to *go green*.....to give to others.....to prepare for the holidays with your family? I'd love to hear your ideas. Last year I made advent tags with the girls and we had a great time. We'll see what I can accomplish this year.

I've been using my stash as much as possible and donating paper I won't use to a school.

p.s. Tried the pumpkin recipe and it was scrumptious!!! Thanks!

Great Post!!

My son and I have been doing a "Stocking Program" for several years to give to children on the reservation. I have the link on my blog where you can do several different types of donation to the Elder Program. A wonderful organization!!

We've been going green in our house for some time now. I make "newspaper posies" and gift wrap out of the comic section of the newspaper.

I'm making some homemade jams & jellies for gifts this year as well and just got in the mail last night, the Holiday Tag Collection Stamp Set from Paper Trey to dress up my goodies.

So many things we can do to help others in need and our beautiful planet :)

Have a fabulous day!

Michelle,
Thank you so much for posting the fix it up, wear it out, make do or do without! link to Heidi's blog, because I would not have seen it otherwise. I can't tell you how many times a day I think about this stuff. Her blog post really inspired me to try this with my family. Thank you again.
Stamping Hugs,
Laura

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

I recycle everything I can. My daughter's elementary school recycles Capri Sun pouches, 100 calorie packages, bottle caps, Crocs, broken crayons, etc. in their effort to be green--so I send that stuff to school with her.

We have 2 large bins in the utility closet in the kitchen. One bin holds the items the city will pick up (glass, no's 1&2 plastic, aluminum cans, steel cans, newspaper...)and the other bin holds all the rest (mixed paper, cardboard, cereal boxes, etc.) Our garbage is picked up once per week and some weeks we only have 1 bag of garbage--for the whole week. On average it's 2 for my family of 4. We would probably have 4 bags of garbage if I didn't recycle all that stuff. I even recycle homework papers that are sent home--they go in the mixed paper bin.

I don't buy things like paper plates or cups very often, but if I do, I choose paper over plastic that can't be recycled in my area.

I am a bit of a recycle nut but I guess there are worse things to be.

What a great idea about the december daily diary!

I am also trying to use my stash instead of buying so much. It is hard when I join a swap or something, though...

Great post! I so agree...we are so blessed and have so much. Yet, there is always a push (and desire) for more. So, we too are trying to help. Last year we gave Bright Hope gifts to our grandsons (50 chicks for our one-year-old and a goat for our 10-year-old that are donated to a family in need), and this year our son said they are going to be giving gifts like this as well and are going to do more handmade gifts. He is a pastor and is encouraging his congregation to do the same. Let's keep passing this message along! Thanks, as always, for your wonderful blog...it always inspires and encourages me!

Although I love to buy new and exciting supplies, I am trying this year to work on projects and give them as gifts instead of giving something purchased at a store. I hope I can get it all done!

My efforts at going green are to make as much as possible and use as much of my stash as possible. I am posting a series of holiday gift projects on my blog, and I'm up to gift #6 posted today! You're welcome to come on over & check it out.

Hey Mish, I'm working on some ideas for Advent, but I can't seem to settle on what to do. I'd love to see a pic of the advent tags you made with the girls last year!
