Snack Jars...

Edit: Hey, I've been meaning to tell you about some fabulous new products that Copic released at CHA. There is new masking film, blending cards, and double sided tape....you can check out Marianne's colorful blog here to read about CHA happenings and all the new products. When I get back from vacation, I'll be showing the new products here on the blogaroonie. :)

Hello friends. Thanks again for all the well wishes. I am feeling pretty good and slept great last night...felt so good to be able to roll onto my side for the first time since my surgery. Did I tell you that one of my gallstones was the size of a golf ball...I got to see it. Gross.

We're heading out for vacation today to beautiful Colorado. The fresh mountain air will do my family wonders! So glad my parents are right next door to hold the fort down while we're gone. Just an update on my Etsy shop while I'm away. I will be gone from August 10th to August 15th. The shop will remain open and all orders received during that time will be shipped on August 16th. I have lots of samples ready for this month's Papertrey release but I have to keep them under cover. You will flip for the Friendship Jar Fall Fillers set!

In the meantime, here's a little something we've been doing lately. I got the idea from Becky Higgins' blog. Each child gets their own snack jar. I found these fun jars at Walmart. We've added decorated name tags to the jars since these photos.
The concept is that a week's worth of snacks go into the jars. You divide the goodies up equally between the kids' jars.
Add in some healthier snacks like breakfast bars, applesauce cups, etc.
Divide up treats like cookies and packaged snacks into little baggies. No one fights over who ate all the Oreos anymore. Each red gets the same amount.
And you don't dare get into the other kid's jar. Or else.
It's worked great for us this summer and lots of friends that visited this summer went home and told their moms all about it. I think it will be nice for when school starts too....the girls will know right where to grab a snack on their way out the door or for after school. Just thought I would share...you gotta love when a great idea comes along. See ya soon!

Layering collage pieces...

Hey friends, I'm back today with a fun post. Yesterday the family went to town for Jordan's guitar lesson and they come home with groceries and a Sonic Diet Coke for me and an afternoon movie. My back had been killing me from laying down so much so I sat in my Artsy Studio chair and crafted while we watched the movie. I strategically positioned my table so that I can see right into the big screen tv.

I receive oodles of comments from readers saying, "Mish, you make it look so easy....like everything on your projects just fall into place." Well, I am blessed with a crafty knack but there is a method to the madness too. I think you'll love today's post because I broke a project down into photographed steps as to how I created some adorable collage gift tags.

The delightfully talented Tara Anderson is the queen of putting together collaged tags. I get a ton of inspiration from her. Check out this post where Tara put together some gift bags filled with candles. Tara has a type of cancer (or pre-cancer) and will be having a hysterectomy soon. She's being super prepared and is making gift bags for friends and family who bring over meals, etc. What a great idea and super thoughtful. I think we could all live by that example to do more to show our appreciation for others.

So taking Tara's lead, I created some little gift bags with tags to have on hand. I have a wire basket that I keep my little sacks like this and a few gifts like card sets, notebooks, candles, jars of jellies, etc. It makes it so easy to give someone a last minute gift. A set of sacks and tags like this would also make great gifts. Just type up a little note so that the recipient will know the intention of the gift bags and tags.

So on to my tags. I created four tags that instantly look Halloween-y, but could be used for Fall in general because I didn't actually use Halloween themed accents....just the color suggestions. The tags clip onto small paper sacks with some Wrinkle Ribbon and a tiny clothespin.
Always so fun to see the goodies spread out in a creative mess, don't you think?
Here's my process that I used for my collage tags. It's easier than you think....but remember that you need to have a stash of goodies on hand at all times. Pre-made embellishments along with your own hand crafted goodies are a good thing. I started out by collecting some of my Orange Parcel Tags and Orange Soda Carnival Tickets. These are staples in my stash that I reach for all the time.
Next, I chose some polka dot paper from Papertrey, some scraps of orange floral paper from October Afternoon and some paper doilies from the Martha Stewart line at Michael's. The fun colors give a hint of Halloween but don't have to be for Halloween at all.
Next up I gathered up some orange and white baker's twine, some orange Japanese masking tape (found online) and some Peach Cobbler Wrinkle Ribbon that can be found in this pastel bundle. Again, it's all about having a stash of goodies on hand when you need them...not when you want to create something and have nuthin' good on hand. I'm totally giving you permission to shop....you can thank me later. ;)
Then I picked out some embellishments that will finish off my tags. Like icing on the cake. And notice how the goodies get smaller as I went down the list. The tiniest of items are the finishing touch most of the time. Here, I used some lacey ribbon accents that I picked up at Michael's (from Jolee's line I believe), some Vintage Buttons from Papertrey in black and white, and some punched frond leaves from some scraps of the Smokey Shadow PTI paper. Remember that punches are making a come back. Sometimes just the simplest little leaf punch can add that perfecto finishing touch to a project.
Now it's time to assemble all the goodies, my favorite part. Starting with the orange tags as the base I just started layering on patterned paper....notice how I added more scalloped punches to the bottom of the tags....gives the tags a whole new look. Then I added a half a doily, and a carnival ticket. Stitching on the tags in my back and forth messy stitch style adds a lot of interest and texture. To my surprise, Jordan had switched my white thread to black...perfect for my tags. I then added a torn snippet of the Japanese masking tape.

When layering papers and flat items, it's all about what looks pleasing to the eye. Not too little, not too much.
Then, just fill in the spots with your 3-D embellishments. I tied my buttons with the orange and white baker's twine and added the punched frond leaf behind. The pretty little bow accents are stuck on last. I tied on the Wrinkle Ribbon last.
Oh, these are so cute! I store the tags with the sacks flat, using the miniature clothespins to keep them all together.
So easy to make but what pretty tags and sacks I'll have when I need a last minute gift. Inside, I can put candles, a few baked treats, some stamped cards with coordinating envelopes, some crafty goodness for a stamping friends, gift cards, candies, etc.
I hope I leave you feeling inspired and with an "I can do it" attitude. Off to read for a little while and rest. Chef Woody's pancakes have given me a full belly!

Etsy Shop Update

Hey friends, just sittin' here bored and more bored. And just so you don't think I'm a wonder woman of any sorts, I thought I should let you know that I have not been stamping all the samples I've made since my surgery. All of the projects and wording were done ahead of time...I'm just filling in a few blanks. ;)

The girls previously helped me with some Wrinkle Ribbon also so that I could do an Etsy shop update while I'm healing up from my surgery. The reds are ready to ship and are looking forward to their *warehouse* job while I'm down and out. :) Enjoy.

Sweet little boy cards...

Thank you for all the well wishes for my surgery. I am very sore and slow moving so I'm just taking it easy and not doing much of anything......which is the worst part because I'm not typically a lay in bed kinda person. But pain has a way of slowing you down, that's for sure!

Today I have some cards from a previous Papertrey release to share using Pine's cute Night, Night Moon stamp set. I worked assembly line fashion to assemble all the parts and pieces of my cards. Then I used Copic markers to color in the cute little, yellow duckies. These made for a cute of set of baby cards for my niece. She loved them.
Colorful but neutral enough for little boy cards.
I love the border image on the bottom of the cards. So cute and would look fantastic on envelopes too.
Well, I'm off to rest some more. Thanks again for the well wishes.

Back to School

Back to school time. It will be here soon enough. Where does the summer go? I dearly love having my reds home for the summer months. The other day we had a fun day of shopping for school supplies. I love getting the list and searching for the fun goodies. The girls always lay out the supplies, write their names on everything and then I take a photo. It's tradition. Every year my girls get a little older, they grow a little taller. I just cherish all the fun memories.
So in tune with our school shopping day, I have a school themed card for you today that I made for the July PTI release. If you're in need for some fun back to school cards, Papertrey can hook you up. Love this new set designed by Niki called School Time. Lots of fun elements to look at.
Teachers LOVE to get a nice card or a little notebook. It's a fun way to start the new school year! Or perhaps you could make a card and tuck it in your child's book bag or lunch box. Such fun times! I hope you have a great start to your school year!

Birthday Wishes

Hey everyone, by the time you read this I will be almost done with my surgery today. Thank you so much for your well wishes and your prayers. Hopefully, I'll have a speedy recovery and will be up and at 'em super speedy quick! I'll try to check in at some point to let you know how it went.

Today I have a birthday card to share with you that I made using the exclusive CHA set called Four of a Kind. It was given out at CHA for each $100 purchase. I know lots and lots of you earned more than one set.....which means you took home lots of Papertrey goodies! Good for you.

My card features two images from the set that builds pretty flowers along with a birthday sentiment that comes with the set.
I used lots of Papertrey patterned papers and Vintage Buttons tied with PTI Rustic Twine. The background is the library card stamp, so versatile for every kind of card.
Hope you enjoy your new set if you got one. :)

Dining Alfresco Style

Oh boy, I love these photos below. Heather Bullard has inspired me with her posts about dining alfresco style. It's all about dining outside......but unlike the BBQ-ing that we're used to, instead the food is easily prepared and just layed out on the table. Heather suggests that you keep a tray or basket nearby with plates and silverware so that you can haul everything outside easily. Love!
And just like Heather, I have an old watering tub like this one. The floating flowers are darling and so simple. Just pick a few from the gardens.
Or maybe I could turn the tub upside down and use it as a table like in the photo below.
Just wanted to share this fun dining concept. I think one of my Pretty Place Settings would be perfect for the baskets to have on hand.
Here's an article about dining alfresco style....HERE.

HERE are some recipes for entertaining outside.

HERE is a book you might like to check out.

Bingo Thank You Card

Hi everyone. I'm back from CHA with my little family. I had a great time meeting all of you....Papertrey fans are the best! Thank you for all the kind words and little gifts. The month of August is going to be super duper busy for me so I just wanted to give you a head's up that my postings may be fewer this month. I have my August PTI box waiting for me and this month's release is going to be super spooky! I can't wait for you to see the new goodies. Also, on Wednesday I am going in for some surgery. I am having my gallbladder removed after having several months of of painful episodes and issues. Hopefully the recovery time will be minimal and I'll feel much better soon. Vacation comes after that for a week, then school shopping for the girls and school starts at the end of the month. So bear with me as this month will be a whirlwind of activities. September will bring a new routine and I'll be having lots of new Etsy items and fun posts. My Etsy shop shipping schedule is back on track now too. :) Stay tuned for fun stuff.

Today, I have another goody from this month's Papertrey release. This card was created with Dawn's new It's Official stamp set.
I combined lots of stamped elements to make some fun embellishments. Love that little bingo card with all the mixy matchy buttons.
Tiny Tag is from my Etsy shop....love them tied to ribbons.
Gotta run to some pre-op doctor's appointments and restock the pantry. Thanks again to everyone who traveled to see us at CHA. Welcome to all the new Papertrey customers and happy stampin'!
