Project Life Week 11, 2012

Hi there, if you're visiting from Becky Higgins' blog, welcome! Today Becky is sharing links to all the Project Life Creative Team Members blogs so be sure to check out her blog for links. It's always so inspiring to see what everyone else is up to with Project Life.

Today I'm sharing Week 11 of my Project Life. I'm about 2 weeks behind but that is very manageable compared to the 17 weeks I got behind in 2011. I've been trying to make any inserts that go with a week that I'm working on so that is taking a little bit longer. But well worth it. Here's my 2 page spread
Note: It seems I forgot to take photos of the individual pages. I'll get to that later and add them back into this post soon.

Here are some of my favorite inserts from this week. I was working with my snow confetti this week on crafty projects so I thought it would be fun to include it right in my insert. I also used some Washi tape from the Smash Book collection + a journaling spot, fabric brad and a Large White Tag. I've really enjoyed including a photo of a weekly craft project in my albums.
Here's a line up of some 3 x 4 journaling cards, starting with my week in review on the left, a shot of the weather in the middle and an artsy quote sticker from Cosmo Cricket. The plaid journaling card is from the Clementine Core Kit.
Here I used a trimmed down Library Card for a journaling card with typed label and photo. The middle insert is another Clementine card with letter stickers and hand journaling. On the 4 x 6 photo insert at the top, I typed on some of my Grid Labels + added a circle embellishment from Banana Fish Studio.
Here's another 4 x 6 insert with photos of Charlie digging in the garden. I added a hand cut patterned paper flat + wood grain chipboard letters + a stamped Small White Tag. The letter stamps are from Hero Arts.
I also added an insert this week using a Design G Photo Pocket Page. I love this 10 x 12 size because I like to keep my inserts smaller than the 12 x 12 pages. I think the main week remains more visible and the smaller inserts lets the viewer know that the inserts act as add-ons to the week.

The front page of my insert shows my dad, a hard working farmer. Always active. A recent world traveler and always on the go. Healthier than ever at age 78.
The back side of the insert shows my dad the day that he had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. This page was very, very hard to make. I almost trashed it because I really don't want to be reminded of this horrible time. The horrible news. But I decided that it's a part of life. A part of my life that I want to document. A year ago, my mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer and I didn't scrapbook one bit of it. I wanted to forget that it happened. I decided that making this insert about my dad's cancer is part of our journey. A story that needed to be told. And before I cry anymore I will just stop typing. On a good note, my dad's surgery was a success. The doctor's think the cancer was contained and caught early. We hope and pray that this is the end of this little journey.
And now for some fun stuff. Many of the Creative Team Members are giving away some Project Life products this week. I'll be giving away lots of items from the Cobalt Project Life collection + a variety pack of the Photo Pocket Pages.
To enter your name for the prizing drawing, please leave a comment telling me something special you've added to your Project Life pages. It can be a special story, an insert page, a fun piece of memorabilia.....anything you like. Or perhaps you have a story you'd like to add to your album. Anything you want.

Here's the details on how to enter the contest:
1. Contest is open to US residents only, sorry to everyone outside the US
2. You must leave your first name and state in the comments section + a blurb (see above)
3. Comments to be considered for the contest will remain open until Wednesday 11:00 PM Central Time. Winner will be announced Thursday.
4. Contest winner will be asked to email a Project Life representative with contact & shipping information. Prize package will ship from Amazon.
5. Good luck!

WI - I'm enjoying following your Project Life articles Michelle. I've been saving "daily tidbits" to add to my kit, many being screen shots from my phone.

For me this year I have been including journaling from each of my family members to show their point of view for each week. I really have loved seeing my children get excited to be able to know this album really is for them.

beautiful insert of your Dad. I will keep him and your family in my prayers.

I have enjoyed putting my phone pictures in my album. I don't have internet service on my phone, so I atually have to download my pictures on a card then onto the computer. It really doesn't take much time at all... but I never do it. At the end of last year, I downloaded them all and put them in my album! :) pictures that are usually lost forever were printed off.

thanks for all of your inspiration! Shelly J in Medina, OH

I love your insert page of your Dad! It's so special. My Dad, too, is a farmer & loves his GREEN tractors! I'm glad you didn't "ditch" the back of the page! It tells a great story; you have some wonderful pictures. (((hugs))) to you.

What do I add special to my pages...PHOTOS TAKEN BY MY DEAR HUSBAND! :-D I think the whole family is having fun with this Project Life "thing". LOL.

Good morning!

My sister and I made a pact for 2012 - that we'd do better sending "real mail" to each other. And we have! And while I am doing a very scaled back PL this year, and and doing mostly journaling, I am keeping all of the cards she sends me.

Thanks for the chance to win some Cobalt goodies!

Project Life is such a great concept. I wish I'd started. We are at a transition in our lives as my oldest child has moved out. I would love to be documenting his life as he truly begins the transition from childhood to adult independence. Right now its way too easy to focus on the challenges instead of the successes.

I've found that Project Life is perfect for recording little conversations that I'd otherwise forget. Just fun little things that my kids say, things that made us laugh, things that are meaningful but I know I would never get around to putting on a regular scrapbook page. Thanks for the great giveaway!

Loving Project Life!!! I always get such inspiration from your posts...thank you for that! In my own personal project life I was so excited to add my boys first trip to the dentist. They did so well and I love that the pics help me to relive that day and just giggle. Since finding out I have MS this project has become so important for me. I want to be able to relive all the everyday stuff. Again thank you for your creative ideas!

Just as I was kicking off Project Life this year, my mom was in the hospital for surgery. I debated, too, about whether it was something I wanted to include and ultimately I did. She was really sick and out of it for quite a while, so I focused on taking pictures and telling the story without making her uncomfortable by taking photos of her. I am glad that I chose to tackle it and include the story instead of shying away from it. Thank you for sharing your inspiration for dealing with the tough stuff, too.

I've been loving the Big Envelopes to keep concert programs. My dh is a choir director & sings in a semi-professional choir & dd in college has sung in various honors choirs/college choir so we go to a lot of amazing concerts. Until the Big Envelopes came out, I never knew what to do with the concert programs - knew I wanted to save them but didn't know where. Now I document the concert when it happens and put the program in the envelope. Makes me happy to have everything documented and in the same place!

What an awesome project! I've been coming back and checking your pages out weekly! I don't have a PL started yet, but I would love to do it! I have all the products in my shopping bag on Amazon for months now! LOL! I think first I'd just do a week that shows our everyday life! As much as special occasions are nice, the everyday life is something we will forget and don't look back on. After that, I'd somehow go back to the days the kids were born. 2 days I want to remember forever! :o)
Thanks for the inspirations Michelle.

Hi Michelle! Your Project Life is so soft, I like it a lot. :) My album is FULL of special things, 12x12 pages when my daughter make a special art project in school for example, or a page protector perfect for some instagrams pictures, some little bits of ephemera, a lot of journaling on journaling cards, even when I don't have any photo to back the story up. Last week a friend of ours had to go back to Europe so the story was told on 3 little journaling cards. :) Thanks for the chance to win.

First I want to say I have been reading your blog for so long and its a great source of inspiration. I know you'd mentioned your Dad and his having surgery. I'm sorry he is going thru this and unfortunately,I know how hard it is on a family to have this going on.
I enjoy seeing all your PL pages every week and appreciate the time it must take just to post it all!

I love your blog and follow it regularly! It's my favorite to come to for inspiration!!! I just started project life a few weeks ago and I find it a little hard to keep up with at times because I have a hard time narrowing down the photos I take during the week!!! I want to include so many!!! So, I've actually started adding inserts every week so far. What I do is make my own college in photoshop of an event in particular that needs a bunch of photos to tell the story. Then I put them all in the photoshop document all sized down and kind of squished together, label/date it, and print it out. They always end up looking cute that way and I feel better because I've squeezed in more photos to tell the story!

Thank you so much for this chance to win!!!

I take the photo a day approach, but to add additional photos from one event (party, vacation, etc) I create a 4x6 or 5x7 pocket album and insert it into a page protector. This has worked out well for days where "one" photo was not enough.

Always love seeing what you do with your PL pages!

Looking back my favorite things are the random things that I included. Like a photo of our cute puppy...right beside a photo of a chair cushion he tried to eat. Not just the 'event' stuff, but also the not so great side of life.

I am glad that you decided to document your dad's journey. You're right - as difficult as it is, it is a part of your life's journey. In my PL, I include the 8 1/2 x 11 calendars from PTI that I embellish. It shows all of the appointments that I have to keep up with for my son's sutism treatment. Would I rather forget this journey? You bet! I wish that autism didn't exist, but it does, and it is a HUGE part of my family's life. It needs to be documented.
