Project Life Week 26, 2012 + October Afternoon

Hello everyone. Today I have some fun things to share with you. First up is my Week 26 of Project Life. I recently got a fun stash of the October Afternoon 9 to 5 collection which I absolutely love. If you're a fan of October Afternoon's whimsical style + you love all things office supply, then this collection is for you. Orange and aqua are some favorite color pairings for me right now so I knew I wanted to have some Project Life journaling cards using the fun OA products. These came together really quickly, just little bits and pieces here and there with a few added tags from my shop, some wood veneer pieces and some stamps.
I've decided that I like to save most of the stamping on my journaling cards for when I actually do that week's layout. So most of my cards have lots of nice white space.
I paired the OA goodies up with some Washi tape, Elle's Studio goodies and lots of machine stitching.
My Week 26 of Project Life ended up having lots of October Afternoon products on the inserts, including bits and pieces from 9 to 5 + Woodland Park.
My week started out with jury duty. I was chosen among 150 other potential jurors for a huge case in our town. It was a case that involved a small baby and I was not particularly looking forward to serving on this trial. I spent 2 full days sitting in a chair, staring at a blank wall before I was finally released. I was very relieved to go about the rest of my week, without having to spend 2 weeks in a courtroom chair.
The rest of my week was all about our usual family happenings. We were winding up the Summer league volleyball and basketball, I was collecting the best pickings from our garden, we went new vehicle shopping and my dad and I took my mom out for her birthday and a little field trip to a historic quilt barn.
Once in a while I like to mark my weeks in my Project Life album so that I can reference where I'm at in the year. This was a great time to use the new, colorful stickers from OA Woodland Park. I added them right onto a Project Life journaling card that I turned sideways. I added this to a 4 x 6 piece of OA patterned paper then stitched & added Washi, chipboard numbers and a sticker border.
One of my favorite 4 x 6 inserts showing my before and after of a salsa making session. I used a Starburst Grid Paper Label to type some journaling and then added a Studio Calico stamp.
Here I used another Starburst Grid Paper Label directly on a photo.
A handmade journaling card + a small sack which hides some journaling about the trial going on.
More handmade journaling cards with tags, stickers, and Washi tape added. I used a portion of a Grid Paper Label to add more typed journaling.
Here I took an Instagram photo that I altered with the Diptic app and cut it in half, using one half on each of 2 separate journaling cards. I typed right onto the journaling cards with my vintage typewriter. I love to add tags like the Garment Tags behind strips of patterned paper. I need to go back in and write down Jordan's shoe size and how much her shoes cost for volleyball.
More of the colorful October Afternoon sticker letters on an Elle's Studio journaling card. On the right I added stamp to a Small White Tag.
And another week is in the books. Even though I'm behind I'm not worrying about that at all. Each and every chance I get to work on a week of Project Life is just another week of memories captured for my family. Still loving the process, still chugging along.

Some fun news:
Today I am very excited to announce that I will be joining the October Afternoon Design Team along with Mou Saha and all the other talented OA ladies. I have long loved October Afternoon since their very first products. When looking through my blog projects tagged with OA products, I have steadily used their goodies on dozens and dozens of projects. Their whimsical style and wide array of products is just so enjoyable to create with. I'll be debuting my first projects on the October Afternoon website later this month. I hope you enjoy!

Let's wrap up with an awesome prize package:

Class Description:
Come join Becky Higgins for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend some time with her during the last quarter of 2012. Whether you're a long-time Project Lifer or you're just now hearing about Project Life, you will love learning about the guilt-free philosophy behind this system of memory-keeping. I'd love to implement more me time. May sound selfish, but I've recently become a single mom, and although I still have help and things aren't as bad as they could be, I know I'm off my game. I truly think if I could have some time to myself that wasn't about the chores or the house or the kids I could do better in all areas.

I am a Marine wife and currently not working for the first time in my life. I need to get a routine to my days...there is a lot I want to accomplish during this "break" as I'll be back to full-time working soon enough. The days just seem to get away from me!

I would like to purge a lot of stuff out of my life. Currently I'm living in a smaller place and the stuff is just taking over. I keep hanging on to things I might need in the future, and they are weighing down my life right now.

Big big congrats on the OA design team, I am a big fan of theirs and have been for a long time.wow I'm so excited for you.
I think/know that I need to concentrate on me, get fit, lose a little weight, get a skin care regime happening etc that's my plan.

Congrats on the OA team! They are lucky to have you!
I've started exercising on a more routine basis and I'd like to keep that up. I still don't enjoy it (maybe someday???), but I know that I need to do it. I'd also like to make an appointment with myself to work on my Project Life on a weekly basis. Work & kids & making meals & housework & all of that other day to day stuff seems to always get done first, leaving me no time or energy for fun stuff!

I love your handmade journaling cards! I would like to focus on the present & practice more gratitude. Thx!

I would like to learn to RELAX. I need to keep my mind in the "now," and less in the "OMG what's coming next" mode!

I would love to get more organized when it comes to things I do for me. Project life, fitness, and decluttering are at the top of my list.

Congratulations on you OA assignment - their products are truly fantastic and you'll be a great addition to their team.

I'd like to implement more doing and less drifting. I feel like I spend a lot of time thinking about projects or reading about ideas but not actually acting on the inspiration. As the holidays quickly approach, I'm hoping to schedule my crafty activities as I would any other appointment in order to get more productive.

For me, I feel pressure from outside sources that everything should be about me- so I am currently pushing back day by day to see if I can make make it not about me, but help make a difference in the life someone else.

So excited that you will be joining October Afternoon's Design Team. I have been loving all of their products and especially for Project Life. I would love to be able to balance my time better between juggling a full time job, 2 kids and a husband that is gone frequently because of his job. I always feel torn in so many different directions but have loved working on Project Life because I feel it makes me realize all of the little things that I have in my life that I appreciate so much. Don't know if I would be as aware without it! :)

I would love to have more craft time. It's my therapy! With all that goes on in my life, crafting gives me something else to concentrate on and put aside my stress for a little while.

While I am a stay at home Mom that is present nearly 24 hours a day, 7days a week for my family, I would like to be able to give my full attention to whatever my family needs 'at that particular' moment. I all too often prioritize less important things (household chores, mowing, etc) in front of possibly sitting down and really listening. I am a multi-tasker to a fault.
Thank you for offering this give-away through your blog and always for the beautiful talents you share here.

I got a little overwhelmed recently as I realized that every corner of my house had some kind of undone project or mess to be cleaned up, etc. I would love to implement more organization, and that extends to the giant boxes of photos and giant files full of digital photos. I'm just beginning to look into Project Life and I absolutely love it.

Oh, I have to have more time to work on things that I love to do - photography, quilting, scrapbooking and cooking. There just isn't enough time.

As of right now, my most important job is cultivating a good life for my daughter. She has special needs and it is my job to make sure all of her needs are met at home, school, etc. I have fallen behind on my scrapbooking and I need to catch up. She enjoys looking at my scrapbooks and I want to get caught up, make it better, etc.

Hi! I am new to Project Life but have been scrapbooking since around '98... Well... I started scrapbooking then and was very organized and kept up until my daughter was born in '03... Then I got a little behind. What I mean is I am 5 years behind! Ack! I would love to stay organized and a little more up to date. This has seemed completely impossible until I found Project Life. Now it seems doable. I still have a lot to cath up on but I'm not dreading it anymore- I'm excited! So in answer to your question- I'd like to be organized, efficient and stay excited about it!! Thanks for this opportunity! I really hope I can take Becky's class!

I would love to acknowledge the ordinary joys of life through project life journaling and scrapbooking. It's really about how we spend our normal days...not just the special ones!

Clean up! It's time for me to clean up and get organized. My craft room has run amuck! QUESTION: How did you add the type on to the cards? Did you use a typewriter?

Janna said...

I guess I'm always striving for more organization--we have five kids and homeschool, and well, it gets messy here. I'd also love to be more scheduled about crafting time--I love it--but I do things in bursts. I think the two tie in together though, if I stayed more on top of things around the house I would feel better about using time to create, rather than feeling I must be cleaning.

I would love to use what I have. I have bath&body products, craft supplies, greeting cards, books to read, clothes to wear, etc. -- instead of always thinking/wanting/buying MORE, why not make do with I already have?

Project Life is one of those things-I have fun when I do it, but often it just sits in a corner collecting dust.

I would love to make sure my kids understand and feel how important family is. We live a very fast paced life and I worry they will start to think family and roots are not that important and take them for granted.

I love how you included the weather in your layout -- I need to remember to document things like that! I need to get more organized, so that I will have more time to spend on my PL & other craft projects that I'd like to try.

I really would love to implement more organization time! I find that when i go to actually craft, i spend at least half that time that i have available just trying to organize and pick up messes! Thanks for the chance to win!!

I would love to be more organized and motivated to be able to create more. I have gotten in a rut and can't seem to get out of it! Need accountability partner! Project life class would be amazing!

Time for better self-care which for me includes creative time. I am horribly disorganized and that complicates the matter. Leads to major overwhelm and I don't even have kids at home anymore!

I love OA 9-5 line. So many nice things out now that fit nicely with Project Life or something similar.

I would love to be more organized - house and schedule. Since I am not currently working it is more difficult to know what I need to get done in a day.

I've been a mom for 10+ years and my youngest just started preschool 2 mornings a week so for the first time in years I will have 6 hours to myself! I could easily spend that time running errands or doing chores but I want to spend it focused on ME and what makes me happy. #1 on my list is completing Project Life pages so I can catch-up, not for the simple fact of catching up but because it makes me happy.

I'd like to cultivate a good life by living in the now and not worrying about the future. I have purchased a few Project Life goodies, but have yet to begin. I anticipate that the process will help me be more "in the moment" of my everyday life. I'm looking forward to recording more of the everyday that my family is blessed with.

I would love to plan on more follow up. Right now I have an empty Project Life binder waiting for the last few week's photos and journaling cards to be printed, a scrapbook waiting for only a dozen more pages, a vague notion of upgrading my computer, and several listservs that I need to get on. All of which require more follow up.

I read my horoscope almost every day just for the entertainment but todays was pretty interesting as I have really been thinking along these very same lines and getting ready to make my fall goals - "You need to head in a new direction and change the tune you have been singing. Note what is not working. Tap into your creativity with the knowledge that things will get better if you make the correct choices." I had decided not to take Becky's class for many reasons - time, money, a million other unfinished projects etc. but this has been the nudge I need to 'change my tune'! It sounds as if the horoscope writer was writing this just for me! LOL If I don't win the spot I'm still signing up cause I know Becky will make it so worth it!

First, congratulations on joining the OA Design Team! As for what I would like to implement in my life, I need to be more disciplined at not working in the evening hours. I would luv to implement more crafty time...I spend way too much time running after everyone else and making sure they're taken care of, when really the kids are old enough to do some of these tasks themselves. I think its important for myself to have some quality time doing the things I like to do too. After all when mamma's happy everyone is happy...right? :)

I'd really like to implement more health time for me, and my whole family actually. My job migrated to a work from home position about a year ago and now I just sit all day at the computer/phone. I find that I'd like to get a good organization system down so when I get to spend time in my craft area, I don't waste any looking for things I've misplace. Also,an idea to streamlining the process a bit in the craftroom so that hours and hours don't go by with little to show for it.

And I want to feel like my Project Life album is a bit more current and reflects more effectively the little bits and pieces of our lives right here, right now.
Thanks!

I'd like to be better at balancing time between housework, my kids and myself when I'm home. I work full-time and am a single mom, so there's not a lot of time in the evenings to do everything I need/want while still spending enough time with my girls!

I"m trying to implement evening reading time with my daughter! She is 10 and doesn't love to read....I LOVE to read and really want her to. So we are trying to read an hour a night each taking turns so she doesn't space out while I read to her. I'm excited to read The Hunger Games with her!! And I love seeing her face when something happens that wasn't in the movie!!

To cultivate a good life, I would love to implement more time for crafting. I'm a SAHM and love taking pictures of my family ... but that is where it stops. My dh would like it if I was more organized (lol)!

I'd like to get more scrapbooking/memory keeping done. I'm not super crafty, so it takes me a while to get scrapbooking done. I spend a lot of time making sure i'm doing it "just right".

Right now I am needing more time to get my projects done. The minutes go by so fast in the day caring for other people (3 little people to be exact) and by the end of the day, I am exhausted. I need a little more "me" time.

I have actually been thinking a lot about this particular topic - what I want to add to our lives. We are a busy, thriving family of six (four teenagers!). However, I have been feeling disconnected from our family and I want to find a way back to that. It was so much easier when they were little and told me every single thing on their minds. Now, it's like pulling teeth and just about as painful for them!

I love your journaling cards! Your blog has provided so much great inpiration in my own PL pages! I want to make more time for exercising...I have the desire but I just need the motivation...does that make sense?!?!? I would also like to get more involved at church.

I would like to implement more me creative time as part of a regular routine and not just a "reward" when everything else is done and I would like to implement more creative time with the girls even though school is back in session.
Thanks for the chance to win and that is so awesome about OA!

Love, love, love your cards. They look so delicate and really set the mood of your photos :)
I would love to be more organized with time for 'me'. As a mum and wife I have no worries spending time on everyone else, but when it comes to time for me I fee l a bit guilty even though my husband tells me I shouldn't feel that way :)
Thanks so much for the chance :)

I'd like to have more of a schedule. I seem to waste a lot of time during the day doing nothing (i.e. surfing the internet) and there are so many things I need to get done. I'll be going back to work as soon as I find a job and there's a lot I'd like to accomplish before then.

Congratulations on your design spot with OA...love their product and your work. I would love to implement more consistent crafty time into my schedule. Thanks for offering the great prize. It looks like a wonderful class!!

I was so excited to see you are on the OA team!!! Congratulations!! Something I'd like to implement into my life would be more time spent getting rid of clutter. Without all the clutter, the house would be so much easier to clean, and that would make more time for other things and a cleaner house! :)

So excited to hear you will be on the design team for OA. LOVE their products!!!

As for something I want to implement in my life right now...I think organization. Organization would help sort out all the other stuff I have going on! We just had our first little one 3 months ago, moved into a new home 2.5 months ago, and my husband started his medical residency 2 months ago. Since then, everything has been chaos!
hahaha
With everything happening so closely together, we never really had time to sort out all of our things in the new home.
Organization is a must over here.

The past year (and a half) has been just a struggle to stay afloat due to sickness, surgeries, & countless doctor's appointments. Now I am feeling reenergized and excited to get into a regular schedule, and working on balancing all aspects of my life - the house, two toddlers, meals, time for projects with my kids, time for my projects, and time for my relationships - you know...everything being a wife & mother entails! :)

I would really love to get some home improvement projects and reorganization projects completed, so that I can focus on things like Project Life. I also want to learn to be more computer literate when it comes to manipulating and organizing digital photos. I am really trying to live in thehere and now and try new things...like hiking (at the age of 50), but I'm still stuck in a couple of areas. What can I say...I'm a work in progress.

I really really hope I win!!!

Congrats on your October Afternoon news! That is fantastic! I have to say I would love to spend more time crafting. Right now I tend to work on things late into the night because the house is quiet and I am not interrupted. I would implement more 'me' time. I know that sounds selfish but I have learned that I need to put myself on my priority list sometimes. Creating recharges my batteries and that way I have more of myself to give to others. Thanks for the chance to this amazing prize! Love your work!

What a wonderful giveaway. Could be the perfect opportunity to get "restarted" with my Project Life. I love the idea and was good for a few months. Then I had to put it away and it immediately got forgotten. I would love to be able to document my family's life without needing the binder and supplies to contantly be taking up space on my kitchen counter! Thank you for the opportunity to win!

Emily said...

Thanks for the opportunity for the giveaway! I would like to implement a more scheduled work week. It seems that every day after work there is something coming up and things start to pile up at home, in the craft room, and exercising has long been forgotten. I hope (fingers crossed) that having our days a little more scheduled out, I will be able to keep up with the daily life duties.

I often feel that I am paddling furiously just to keep my head above water; that is not the life I want for my daughters and husband! Becky Higgins is full of great ideas on how to make choices that will result in the life you want. Thanks for a chance to win a spot in her class which isn't in my budget right now.

Love your journal cards! Will you have some in your etsy shop?
