Project Life Week 11, 2012

Hi there, if you're visiting from Becky Higgins' blog, welcome! Today Becky is sharing links to all the Project Life Creative Team Members blogs so be sure to check out her blog for links. It's always so inspiring to see what everyone else is up to with Project Life.

Today I'm sharing Week 11 of my Project Life. I'm about 2 weeks behind but that is very manageable compared to the 17 weeks I got behind in 2011. I've been trying to make any inserts that go with a week that I'm working on so that is taking a little bit longer. But well worth it. Here's my 2 page spread
Note: It seems I forgot to take photos of the individual pages. I'll get to that later and add them back into this post soon.

Here are some of my favorite inserts from this week. I was working with my snow confetti this week on crafty projects so I thought it would be fun to include it right in my insert. I also used some Washi tape from the Smash Book collection + a journaling spot, fabric brad and a Large White Tag. I've really enjoyed including a photo of a weekly craft project in my albums.
Here's a line up of some 3 x 4 journaling cards, starting with my week in review on the left, a shot of the weather in the middle and an artsy quote sticker from Cosmo Cricket. The plaid journaling card is from the Clementine Core Kit.
Here I used a trimmed down Library Card for a journaling card with typed label and photo. The middle insert is another Clementine card with letter stickers and hand journaling. On the 4 x 6 photo insert at the top, I typed on some of my Grid Labels + added a circle embellishment from Banana Fish Studio.
Here's another 4 x 6 insert with photos of Charlie digging in the garden. I added a hand cut patterned paper flat + wood grain chipboard letters + a stamped Small White Tag. The letter stamps are from Hero Arts.
I also added an insert this week using a Design G Photo Pocket Page. I love this 10 x 12 size because I like to keep my inserts smaller than the 12 x 12 pages. I think the main week remains more visible and the smaller inserts lets the viewer know that the inserts act as add-ons to the week.

The front page of my insert shows my dad, a hard working farmer. Always active. A recent world traveler and always on the go. Healthier than ever at age 78.
The back side of the insert shows my dad the day that he had surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. This page was very, very hard to make. I almost trashed it because I really don't want to be reminded of this horrible time. The horrible news. But I decided that it's a part of life. A part of my life that I want to document. A year ago, my mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer and I didn't scrapbook one bit of it. I wanted to forget that it happened. I decided that making this insert about my dad's cancer is part of our journey. A story that needed to be told. And before I cry anymore I will just stop typing. On a good note, my dad's surgery was a success. The doctor's think the cancer was contained and caught early. We hope and pray that this is the end of this little journey.
And now for some fun stuff. Many of the Creative Team Members are giving away some Project Life products this week. I'll be giving away lots of items from the Cobalt Project Life collection + a variety pack of the Photo Pocket Pages.
To enter your name for the prizing drawing, please leave a comment telling me something special you've added to your Project Life pages. It can be a special story, an insert page, a fun piece of memorabilia.....anything you like. Or perhaps you have a story you'd like to add to your album. Anything you want.

Here's the details on how to enter the contest:
1. Contest is open to US residents only, sorry to everyone outside the US
2. You must leave your first name and state in the comments section + a blurb (see above)
3. Comments to be considered for the contest will remain open until Wednesday 11:00 PM Central Time. Winner will be announced Thursday.
4. Contest winner will be asked to email a Project Life representative with contact & shipping information. Prize package will ship from Amazon.
5. Good luck!

I love your layouts! I've not yet started Project Life, but want to. I want to record the silly/fun every day moments that happen in our life. I do scrap, but tend to only scrap the big events that happen.

My favorite thing to add my project life pages are my children's artwork and schoolwork. My six year old daughter is an artist in the making and she feels so special when I had her work to Mama's Project Life book. It gives me a special place to put those things she works so hard on!

I would love the chance to win Cobalt Edition of Project Life. I want to try to do school albums for my children. Something I put into PL - hmmm I'm a heavy journaler and love to stamp on all the PL insert cards to jazz them up (brings them to life). I also use Washi Tape to enhance the look of things - it changes the appearance without a whole lot of work.

One of my favorite things I've used in my Project Life album is my grandmother's seam binding. My mother gave it to me year's ago when I was learning to sew and I never used it for anything. It is so pretty and I love that it is not only vintage, but from family. It reminds me of my grandmother, even though I never got to meet her.

I hope I win! :)

The last thing I documented to be added to my Project Life is my favorite so far. My 11 year old daughter gave up pasta for Lent. I was skeptical but encouraged and aided her by not making any pasta for the season. On Palm Sunday she wated to celebrate the end of Lent with pasta for dinner, so I made her some. I had to get a picture of her taking that first bite and journaled about it. I was so proud of her!

I love how easy it is to add the "stuff of life" - ticket stubs, kids artwork, card received. I love that big things can be cut down to the 4x6 or 3x4 slot easily and its not a big deal to cut it down because I'm just getting the memory in there. I love that documenting your everyday life doesn't have to be about photos only. There are lots of other ways to tell our story.

Dianne P. said...

I haven't done PL for since 2010 but I am so happy that I took the time to do it then. That was the last year of my Dad's life and to capture his every day life in our lives is so precious to me now. I wouldn't trade having that documentation for anything!

I'm about the simple, so it's achievable!

Our weekly layouts are in B&W photos with the exception of FOOD, saved inserts and the -ONE- event that stood out to us as a family unit is in color {ie. wk daughter went to the dr., hubby making a snowman and stages in the making I took from my sick window, etc...}

Thanks for a chance to win. I have twin 8 y/o olds and not one scrapbook. Working on one that is current; would love to also be working on one from the past 7 years!

I love adding bits of food packaging to my layouts - cereal boxes, labels from bags... it really adds some great color and fills in an empty space here and there.

I've started writing down everything my 3 year old says and my 1 year old does to include in PL. It's been hilarious - and now I can go back and read those things I might forget later! Some cases I even have a photo to go with!

Two "items" that have been very consistent throughout my PL spreads to this point have been the 3x4 cards marking my Personal Days each week and photographs of the books I've finished reading - both physical versions in paperback or hardcover, as well as those read on my Nook Color. I've become intrigued by Numerology since roughly Fall 2011, and so I'm incorporating what are known as Personal Days, and their meanings week-by-week. They go 1-9 and each has a different theme associated with it: 1 is New Beginnings...3 should be social...4 is work...8 is big business...9 is completion so you can start the whole cycle again.

Anyway, love going back and seeing if the Personal Days match up to their meanings. Also love knowing what I'm reading and keeping track so I don't read them again unless I wish to.

I recently learned about project life and want to get started! My husband and I don't have kids, but I still want to document our busy lives and this seems like the perfect way to go about it. I'm also kicking around the idea of making a series of project life albums for my mom using pictures she has of our family, which are all in boxes at the moment.

Thanks for the opportunity!

Thanks for such a generous giveaway!

The most special "extra" thing is having a place to save all the important moments from my daughter's baby years - cards from her well check-ups with height and weight, her first haircut, etc. Now that she's 6 I post all the funny things she says on facebook, so I'd love to have a page of just screencaps of her quotes from my facebook page.

I don't have any favorite things I've added to my project life album, because I don't have one. My favorite page that I have scrapped using traditional methods lately was actually about a miscarriage I had earlier this year. Even though the subject was very painful, I felt that scrapping it was cathartic and it's now one of my favorite pages.

I have added brochures, ticket stubs and announcements. Sometimes they don't fit in the protectors and only have the basic ones, so I love that it is in a 3 ring binder and I just punch them and add it to the week. So fun!

Michelle, Love Your layouts and all that you add to your PL pages. I lovke to add little stickers --- I feel my embellishment stash is lacking-- I pretty much stick to the kit pieces, but like to add Ali Edwards stamps and sentiments that I printed from her designer digitals collections.
